Lunch at livia

Lunch at livia
Distillery District, Toronto

I went for my typical lunch today at livia
A juice bar in the Distillery District of Toronto
An area of town for which my office is also located
livia has many great veggie options for me to choose from
And at reasonable prices considering the area it's in
Not only can I get away from work and relax for an hour
Over a healthy meal
But I can also chat about music with the fellow who runs the place
Good conversations have occurred over my soups at livia
Last one was when I commented on
The Grateful Dead that was playing overhead
The fact that it wasn't the song Truckin' for a change
But a real Grateful Dead recording was a pleasant surprise
I didn't realize this chap sitting at the next table
Was listening to every word of my conversation with Barry
Until there was a pause
And he came up to me and said
"Is this really the Grateful Dead? It sounds so good!"
He seemed genuinely interested to know there's much more to
The Grateful Dead than what you hear on the radio
I think a new Deadhead was born... and he looked to be in his fifties
Then again today
I was talking to Barry about Classic Albums Live
A series which showcases local talent who perform live
Some of the greatest rock and pop albums ever recorded
Note for note, cut for cut
Just the way we're use to hearing it on the record
When a woman who was quietly browsing the menu nearby
Trying to decide between the black bean quesadilla or the tuna wrap
Jumps right in to our conversation
After overhearing the news about the Friday summer series
She wants to know all about these Classic Albums Live musicians
Who'll be performing a Pink Floyd album on every Friday in July
And two or more Beatles records every Friday in August
Her passion and enthusiasm for music seems to match my own
A half hour went by before I discovered my sandwich looking up at me
Begging to be eaten immediately along with the lukewarm soup
And the coffee in a cup which is starting to grow cold in my hand
But lukewarm or cold, this fare tastes very good
We made an instant connection, Ingrid and I
Which left Barry to give more attention to his other customers
I sent Ingrid an email when I returned to the office
Continuing the musical conversation in cyberspace
Her reply was very positive
"Great!", I thought
"A new friend who shares the same taste in music as I"
And apparently the same taste in lunch menus
Great food and great music
Now there's two things for new friends to be happy about
