Dirty Dancing
quote-a-long
Bloor Hot Docs Cinema
by Live Music Head
for this great summertime movie turned quote-a-long.
And tickets included a prop bag.
Inside were party favours: balloons, watermelon jujubes,
noisemakers, glow-in-the-dark sticks and leis,
all of which were thrown in the air and at the screen
at the appropriate time,
according to the rules of the prop game
which were announced just before the screening.
My prop bag quote was:
“Yeah, it takes a real saint to ask daddy.”
What a hoot!
Folks dressed up and were singing and dancin’ dirty in the aisles.
With karaoke-style subtitles,
everyone hooted, hollered, and knew just when to say:
“Nobody puts Baby in a corner.”
Yes, there were tears.
Yes, there was laughter.
And yes, there was beer.
I loved the energy!
I loved the enthusiasm!
And I grew ever-more emotional as the film rolled on,
exactly the same way Jennifer Grey’s character did
when I was that hot-to-trot age.
(Skinny dipping on my sweet sixteen
with that hot guy in a mustang, for starters).
Patrick Swayze never looked hotter.
